Overview

This qualification is based on the recommendations of the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the Skills for Health Assessment Principles for First Aid Qualifications. The Level 2 Award in Activity First Aid (QCF) is registered on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) regulated by Ofqual.

Hiking emergency

Higher Education colleges who can access funding for their courses take this option, as the Activity First Aid course is listed on the Qualification Credit Framework and may be eligible for public funding as determined by the Department for Education (DfE) under Sections 96 and 97 of the Learning and Skills Act 2000.

  • Recognition and treatment of a heart attack
  • Recognition and treatment of anaphylactic shock
  • Treatment of burns and scalds
  • Recognition and treatment of head injuries, neck and back injuries
  • Treatment of a diabetic emergency
Intended Audience

The qualification is designed for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide First Aid when dealing with an emergency situation whilst undertaking activities, such as sports, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, personal trainers, gym instructors, Duke of Edinburgh Leaders/Supervisors minibus drivers, sports coaches, PE teachers, or any staff working on site with young people involved in activities etc.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but in order to benefit from the learning, Learners should possess communication skills sufficient to allow them to address the assessment requirements of the qualification.

Requalification Requirements

This Award in Activity First Aid is only valid for a period of 3 years, within which time the Learner will need to re-take the course and the assessment in order to remain qualified.

Note

Whilst a first aider’s certificate has expired, that person will not be accepted as a workplace first aider under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, so employers should be encouraged to requalify their first aiders early. You must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in this course and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.
