Overview

The First Aid at Work Refresher course provides employees with updates on first aid protocols and the skills necessary to deal with a range of injuries and potentially life-threatening situations. It is suitable for those who already hold a current First Aid at Work certificate that is nearing expiry and who need to re-train to obtain a valid certificate.

Course Duration

This course is run over two days (minimum of 12 hours) and can be run in-house for up to 12 delegates or individuals can attend our open courses.

Course Objectives

  • Recognise the importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures
Assessment and Certification

The course is assessed via a practical and theory assessment. Successful delegates will receive an approved First Aid At Work certificate, which is valid for 3 years.
The government strongly recommends that first-aiders undertake Annual Refresher Training, over half a day, during any 3 year FAW certification period.

Intended Audience

The qualification is designed for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide First Aid when dealing with an emergency situation.

Entry Requirements

To attend a first aid refresher course, learners must produce a copy of a First Aid at Work Certificate that is either HSE approved or Ofqual/SQA regulated. This certificate must not have expired by more than 3 months.

Requalification Requirements

This QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is valid for a period of 3 years, within which time the learner will need to re-take the course and the assessments in order to remain qualified.

RefresherNote

Whilst a first aider’s certificate has expired, that person will not be accepted as a workplace first aider under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, so employers should be encouraged to requalify their first aiders early. You must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in this course and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.
