Overview

This first aid at work course is suitable for all companies, particularly those with a large number of employees or businesses working in a high-risk environment. The aim of the QCF 3 Day First Aid at Work course is to ensure you understand the importance of safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health in the workplace. This course can be adapted to suit a particular audience, for example, clerical, school construction or engineering staff.

Course Duration

This course runs over 3 days (minimum of 18 hours) but we do have the flexibility to accommodate your specific requirements. We can visit your site or place of work and run in-house training for up to 12 delegates or individuals.

Course Content

  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in the event of an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious
  • Administer CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation)
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints including spinal injuries
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with eye injuries
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
  • Administer first aid to a casualty in anaphylactic shock
  • Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid

By the end of the first aid at work course, participants will be able to:

  • Act safely, promptly and effectively with emergencies at work
  • Use first aid equipment
  • Understand employer duties and legislation
  • Maintain first aid records
  • Recognise the importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but in order to benefit from the learning, learners should possess communication skills sufficient to allow them to address the assessment requirements of the qualification.

Assessment and Certification

 

The course is assessed via a practical and theory exam. Successful delegates will receive an approved First Aid At Work certificate, which is valid for 3 years. The government strongly recommends that first-aiders undertake Annual Refresher Training, over half a day, during any 3 year FAW certification period.

Whilst a first aider’s certificate has expired, that person will not be accepted as a workplace first aider under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, so employers should be encouraged to requalify their first aiders early. You must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in this course and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.
