Blue Earth Training - Work accidentThe purpose of the First Person on Scene (FPOS) qualifications is to provide immediate life support to the patient pending the arrival of definitive pre-Hospital care. Effective interventions in the following areas have been shown to make a difference to survival outcome, and are reflected in the syllabi:
  • Airway Stabilisation
  • Basic Life Support
  • Early Defibrillation
  • Oxygenation
  • Circulatory Support
Course Duration

There are two qualifications, each with its own entry criteria. There is the option to undertake additional skills with each qualification to best meet the needs of learners.

  • First Person on Scene (Basic)
 3 hours pre-study; 10 hours contact time; 2 hours of assessment.
  • First Person on Scene (Intermediate)
3 hours pre-study; 30 hours contact time; 2 hours of assessment.

Qualification Endorsement

This FPOS course is designed to provide learner with simple but effective skills and knowledge to enable them to provide immediate care in the first few minutes of an emergency. The First Person on Scene qualification is clinically endorsed by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (Edinburgh), the leading clinical body for pre-Hospital Care in the UK. The qualification is valid for of 3 years. Periodic re-training and assessment for both the practical skills and supporting knowledge will therefore be required.

Whilst a first aider’s certificate has expired, that person will not be accepted as a workplace first aider under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, so employers should be encouraged to requalify their first aiders early. You must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in this course and must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment.
